Old Tax Regime

Definition

The traditional tax structure with multiple deductions and exemptions (80C, 80D, 80G, HRA, LTA, etc.) and tax slabs of 0%, 5%, 20%, 30%. Available as an opt-in choice for FY 2025-26.

In Context

Old Regime slabs: 0% up to ₹2.5L; 5% ₹2.5–5L; 20% ₹5–10L; 30% above ₹10L. Beneficial for taxpayers with large deductions (80C + 80D + NPS + HRA etc.). Section 87A rebate available if income ≤ ₹5L.
