STP (Systematic Transfer Plan)
Definition
Automatic transfer of funds from one mutual fund scheme to another at regular intervals.
In Context
STP is useful for gradually deploying a lump sum from a debt/liquid fund into an equity fund, reducing timing risk. Each transfer is treated as a redemption (with applicable capital gains tax) and a fresh purchase.
