Definition

Profit from sale of capital assets held for 12 months or less (equities/equity MFs) or 24 months or less (property/unlisted shares).

In Context

STCG on listed equity/equity MFs (Section 111A): taxed at 20% flat rate. STCG on other assets (property, gold, debt funds): taxed at applicable slab rate.
